Easter in Vernon

While Trev is slaving away on the floors at the new house we decided to go to Vernon for Easter to see the family.  I took these quick photos before leaving and can't wait to see the results when we get back.

We left Good Friday morning.  The boys were happy to be travelling, and we made great time.  They were hilarious to drive with.  Always looking out the window, specifically for horses and cows, they had lots to say, not stopping the talking until they fell asleep for their nap.  I would point out the horses, they would say "where, where mama?", but by then they'd be gone.  They'd keep asking "where mama?" for  quite a while, and after a bit I learned to wait until they saw them themselves.  They slept well and woke up within 10 seconds of each other just as we rolled into Vernon.  First question out of Cole's mouth was "where are the horsies?"  A little obsessed I would say!

Chris and the kids came a little later that day and met us at the park.  Acacia ran up and down the beach in the freezing cold water barefoot.  The boys followed suit in their runners.  We all had a nice pizza dinner.  The boys didn't go down easily as usual on their first night and did wake up at night crying.  Chris had to get me up as I didn't hear them.  On Saturday we had a busy day.  Cyrus was so awesome with the boys playing with them all the time, he is a great big cousin.

The weather was so beautiful in Vernon. We haven't been out of our down jackets, rubber boots and rain gear all year so far.  It was great, T shirts and tank tops while soaking up some 18 C sun. Loved it. We took the boys to Kalamalka Park for a walk, looking for horsies the whole way. They were a bit slow so Chris and Acacia and Cy had to take off, but the boys did great on the trail up the big hill. They were obsessed with looking for cows and horses, but enjoyed their little walk.  It was pretty great for me too to go somewhere and hike on a nice trail with my little boys.

Tumbleweed before it gets all balled up

When we pulled into the Provincial Park I noticed 3 horses in a field right beside the park.  I didn't say anything as it was getting a little old by now, but mentioned them to Acacia who is equally obsessed that maybe she should stop.  Chris and her kids stopped on the side of the road and fed the horses.  The boys and I pulled up behind them and stayed in the car.  They were crying and begging to go home to Grandmas house, I guess they were scared of the horses even though they were across the street and we were in the car with the windows down.  Hilarious after all that excitement for days.

Sat night we had Easter dinner. The boys didn't sleep very long for their nap and weren't in the best spirits for the afternoon. They ended up with soothers at the dinner table just to keep them happy enough for us to sit for 5 mintues without 2 whining boys hanging off me and demanding EVERYTHING.

Unfortunately on Sunday, Chris and the kids had to go home.  It was so great when the kids were all playing together, I may have sit for 5 minutes or so at a time while Acacia and Cy occupied the boys, so awesome.  They just love playing with their cousins.  Later that day we met up with friends at Polson Park, we played on the equipment and the boys thought feeding the ducks was pretty good too.

We were supposed to go home on Monday ready for work on Tuesday, but after I talked to Trev on Sunday night we decided that he would get a lot more done at the house if we just stayed on Easter Monday and drove home Tuesday morning in time for me to go to work on Tues afternoon. That left us with a whole other day in Vernon.  I really wanted to take the boys to Demille's to see all the animals so we went on a Cheesy Agricultural Adventure.  First stop was Gort's Gouda, where they have yummy gouda cheese and lots of cows.  We went in the barn to check out the animals and found tons of calves and baby and mama goats.  They were pretty apprehensive about it all, and were pretty scared of the calves, but after I pet a few and got licked by a few they thought that was pretty funny.  The goats didn't really interest them in the barn but they liked feeding them grass outside.  The biggest freak out was when the farm dog came running up wagging his tail madly, there were many tears them and legs clenched around my waist.

Our next stop was at Demille's Farm Market.  They have all the animals a toddler could want to see usually but most of them were still wintering in warmer buildings.  There were still alpacas, chickens, peacocks, bunnies, turkeys, ducks, geese and emus.  And best of all tractors to sit on.

Our last stop was to get curds in Armstrong. They were even making cheese and the machines were stirring up the curds.  The boys found it kind of interesting, but wouldn't eat the curds.  Thats more for me!!  We went home early Tuesday morning just in time for me to go to work.  The whole way home and even when we pulled in the driveway the boys were asking to go to Grandma's house.  They were completely unfazed by being away from their dad for 4 days.  As much as you want them to miss you, I am secretly glad because they might not be old enough miss him so much this year when he leaves on Saturday.  :(
